Self-harvesting of wood is possible on the basis of a signed contract and is available to private individuals only. It is arranged with the forester responsible for the given area, who strictly determines the place, extent and conditions for processing the wood. It certainly does not mean that anyone can now head into the forest with a saw and decide for themselves which tree to fell. That is still theft.
The forester in charge of the area chooses not only a suitable place, but also the way the timber is processed and cleared. When choosing sites we also had to take into account the intense recreational use of Prague’s forests, so as to avoid any collisions with visitors. We place high demands on personal responsibility and care from anyone interested in this attractively priced way of obtaining firewood, and we insist on the agreed conditions and check that they are met.
