Prague’s countryside is rich in wildlife and at the same time attracts many millions of visitors a year. A good number of them come to the forests and parks with their dogs. 

Please keep your dog under control and be considerate — to each other and to the wild animals that live here.

Being bitten by another animal is among the most frequent causes of injury in the animals admitted to our rescue centre. It is not only the bite itself that is dangerous: it often happens that a dog simply runs an animal to exhaustion. Wild animals have nowhere to escape to. They have no other home. Please be considerate and let them have peace in their natural environment.

It is just as important to be considerate to other visitors.

How to keep your dog in check

When you are outdoors, always keep your dog completely under control. Do not let it run free and chase wild animals. You are protecting your dog as well: if your dog running loose in the forest were to disturb a wild sow with young, for example, she may attack it. 

Letting dogs run free is expressly prohibited in hunting grounds. Even on land outside hunting grounds, though, the owner has a duty to look after their animal so that it does not harm anyone through their negligence. Under Prague City ordinance no. 6/2001 on the protection of public green space, letting dogs run free is generally prohibited in parks across Prague as well. 

Most parks, however, have certain exemptions and some areas are set aside for dogs to run free.
