Lesy hl. m. Prahy manage more than 175 water structures (dams, ponds, retention reservoirs including dry polders and stormwater settling tanks) on the City’s behalf.

The City of Prague, represented by the Environmental Protection Department of Prague City Hall, owns them and funds their maintenance and reconstruction.

Besides the stormwater settling tanks these are:

  • 91 ponds covering 136 ha with 2.22 million m3 of retained water
  • 3 dam reservoirs covering 56.9 ha with 1.75 million m3 of retained water
  • 33 retention reservoirs covering 30.2 ha with 362,512 m3 of retained water
  • 8 dry polders covering 46.9 ha with a retention volume of 875,340 m3

Lesy hl. m. Prahy keep the water structures in a condition that prevents any threat to the safety of people, property, water management and other interests. They carry out building modifications and repairs to the structures. They follow the rules for operating and handling the water structures approved in the operating and handling regulations. They regularly carry out expert technical safety supervision, which includes observing each structure and measuring its deformations.
