Forests

Lesy hl. m. Prahy look after 3,100 hectares of forest land, certified forest stands and meadows owned by the City of Prague. Under the Forest Act, all Prague forests fall into the category of forests of special purpose (suburban forests and forests with an enhanced recreational function), so they are meant above all to fulfil the “secondary” functions of a forest — recreation and protection of the environment. All our work is subordinate to that:

• we plant new trees in existing forests and establish new woodland on land that becomes available in various parts of Prague,
• we ensure their protection,
• we carry out the tending operations needed to keep Prague’s forests in good condition,
• we remove diseased and damaged trees as part of incidental felling,
• we make and maintain forest furniture (benches, litter bins, play equipment and the like),
• we look after children’s playgrounds,
• we take away litter,
• we clear illegal dumps,
• we maintain forest paths,
• we mow meadows.

Lesy hl. m. Prahy (LHMP) act as the professional forest manager (OLH) in accordance with the Forest Act in force — not only in the forests owned by the City of Prague, which we manage, but also in forests belonging to other owners.
