The Motolský stream rises in the Praha – Stodůlky cadastral area and joins the Vltava by the Palacký Bridge at river kilometre 54.42. Its headwaters lie close to the Zličín metro station, in a heavily built-up commercial and retail area. Of the total length of 9,939 m, the lower (fully covered) section accounts for 4,251 m and the upper (partly covered) section for 5,688 m. The main tributaries of the Motolský stream are the Větvený stream and the Cibulka stream.
The Větvený stream is a tributary of the Motolský stream, which it joins at the junction of 5. máje and Plzeňská streets in Prague 5. Roughly 700 metres long, it flows out of the U Hájů retention reservoir, into which both the headwater tributaries and the storm sewer system are discharged. The upper part of the Větvený stream catchment is made up of the Mototechna and Konstruktiva premises, the wooded middle part by the Háje natural monument, and the lower part of the catchment contains family houses and gardens. From the Háje – Brouček retention reservoir the Větvený stream runs through woodland in a shallow natural channel with a number of tributaries, its banks lined with trees. Higher flows caused by torrential rain can spill out into the valley floodplain here. Below the railway embankment the stream then passes across private
