The Litovický–Šárecký stream rises near the village of Chýně in the western part of the Central Bohemian Region. It joins the Vltava in Prague – Sedlec, where Císařský Island ends. The Litovický–Šárecký stream first flows through a chain of ponds (Litovický, Kala, Břve, Strnad) and, beyond the Prague boundary, through the Jiviny retention reservoir. Below the Ruzyně prison the stream is culverted for about one kilometre. A large part of the course runs through the Šárka Valley, where the stream is cut into hard lydite rock. Two water structures have been built on the watercourse: in the Prague–Ruzyně cadastral area the Jiviny reservoir, which serves as a retention reservoir, and, just before the stream enters the Šárka Valley, the Džbán reservoir, which mainly serves recreational purposes. The Litovický–Šárecký stream catchment has 2 water-level gauging stations: Jiviny, below the reservoir itself, and Jenerálka.
