Stromovka Royal Game Park

Stromovka park, formerly known as the Royal Game Park, is unique in several respects. Its history goes back to 1268 and the reign of Přemysl Otakar II. A whole line of Czech rulers took turns as its owner, and the importance of the place is shown by the fact that in various property transfers it was usually left out of the inventory and mostly remained in the sovereign’s hands. It has been open to the public since 1804.

With an area of over 90 hectares and a mix of lawns, tree stands and paved surfaces, the park offers Prague residents and all other visitors an excellent place to relax. It is enormously popular: up to 4 million people visit each year, on skates, with a pram, by bike and otherwise.

The park is also notable for the composition of its trees — many interesting species grow here (Ginkgo biloba – maidenhair tree, Quercus alba – white oak, various ornamental cherries and so on), which are worth getting to know and which delight with their colours both in blossom and in the autumn.
