Prague Compost: Certified fertilizer for your garden
After one year of operation of the composting plant, our organization applied to the Central Institute for Control and Testing of Agriculture for registration of the resulting product under Act No. 156/1998 Coll., on fertilizers. On the basis of detailed tests and chemical analyses, a decision was issued to register Prague Compost as an organic fertiliser. This means that it meets all the limits of its chemical and physical properties and can now be used to improve the quality of soil both in gardens and in the maintenance and planting of urban greenery.

Compost dispensing
Prague Compost is issued free of charge to all Prague residents who deposited bio-waste in the composting plant for processing in the previous year. For every 5 kilograms of material deposited, the interested party can collect 1 kilogram of finished fertiliser.
Residents of the capital city can come with their own bins to collect the finished compost from Monday to Friday during the opening hours of the composting plant.
Sale of compost
Compost can also be purchased from Monday to Friday during the opening hours of the composting plant at a price of CZK 1 (excluding VAT) per 1 kg of compost. The sale is only in your own containers.

Prague compost is an organic fertiliser produced by controlled composting of substances containing decomposable organic components. It contains gradually released plant nutrients. The organic substances contained in the fertiliser increase the humus content in the soil, provide energy and nutrients to soil microorganisms and improve the structure, biological and physico-chemical properties of soils. In addition to the main nutrients (N, P, K, Ca, Mg), it also contains trace elements as a natural part of the feedstock.
Scope and use: the Prague compost is used for fertilizing arable land, meadows, vegetables, fruit, flowers and trees. The fertiliser is applied by fertiliser spreaders or on smaller areas by hand spreading. After application to the soil without vegetation, it is immediately followed up by cultivation. The fertiliser can also be mixed with soil and then applied.
Recommended dosage: when fertilising arable land, a dosage of up to 30 t per hectare is used once every three years. The rate is determined by the subsequent crop, the nutrient content of the soil and the requirements of the crop being grown. It is usually applied to arable land in autumn. For grassland, up to 10 t per hectare per year is used for reseeding and up to 30 t per hectare for restoration. It is not to be applied on frozen, snow-covered and waterlogged land. Less suitable for acid-loving plants.
- Woody plants: apply 3 to 5 kg of fertiliser to a tree or shrub within a radius of 1 to 2 m in spring and autumn, work into the soil.
- Flowers: spread approx. 1 kg of fertiliser per 1m2 evenly and work into the soil.
- Vegetables, fruit: up to 3 kg per 1m2 once every three years, depending on the type and requirements of the crops grown.
Substrate preparation: 30 % compost mixed with 70 % soil. The substrate can be used for reclamation and landscaping.
The maximum application rate is 20 tonnes dry matter ha-1 over 3 years.
Health and safety at work: When working, observe basic hygiene rules and wear protective gloves, do not eat, drink or smoke. After work, wash your hands with soap and water and treat with a reparative cream.
First aid:
- In case of eye contact, rinse eyes quickly and thoroughly with a stream of clean water. If you are severely affected, see a doctor.
- If skin is affected, rinse with sufficient water and then wash with soap and water.
