Since 2017, we have been operating a composting plant that the City of Prague built on a vacant plot of land on the outskirts of the Prague-Slivenec district near the Prague Ring Road.
What the composting plant is for
The composting plant organically processes vegetable waste from households and gardens as well as green residues from the maintenance of green areas, such as dry leaves, grass, branches, wood, sawdust and trimmings or residues from fruit and vegetable processing. Its maximum capacity should be up to 7,000 tonnes of bio-waste per year.
Who the composting plant serves
- Prague residents can deposit up to 250 kilograms of biodegradable waste per month for free*. If someone disposes of more than 250 kilograms of waste in one month, the service is charged at a rate of CZK 600 per tonne of waste. For every 5 kilograms of bio-waste handed in, everyone can take away 1 kilogram of compost for free to use in their garden after a year.
*Citizens must bring waste by car with a total weight of up to 3.5 tonnes and show a valid ID card - Citizens residing outside Prague. The rate for them is CZK 600 + VAT per tonne of waste.
- Companies. The rate for them is CZK 600 + VAT per tonne of waste. The catchment area of the Composting Plant hl. m. Prague covers almost the entire territory of the capital city on the left bank of the Vltava and in the south it extends across the river to Kunratice.
